Cheslie Kyrst was crowned Miss North Carolina and Miss USA in 2019. Kryst was a beautiful bright and brilliant young lady with a mountain of success. Her accomplishments as a North Carolina attorney, model and television correspondant for ET were but a few highlights of her gifts that she shared with the world. Unfortunately, her time was tragically cut short, due to the completion of suicide on January 30, 2022.
The Miss Natural Nation Co., strongly believes that our mental, physical and emotional health all go hand in hand. Black women and girls are too often viewed as "Super Woman" and not given permission to feel or mentally struggle without shame, guilt or embarrasment. Too often, we hold in so much unresolved pain. We ARE allowed to heal. We ARE allowed to be soft. We ARE worthy of gentleness and kindness. We ARE worthy of being loved "correctly". We ARE worthy of being safe. We DO deserve so much better than what we have gone through and how the world see's us. It is "ok" to say NO. It is "ok" to walk away from anything or anyone that is a hazard to your mental and over all wellbeing. It is "ok" to take off your crown and say, "I am not ok".
Our founder Aza A. Shukura is a strong advocate for mental health support and fights to seize the stigma around mental health. Ms. Shukura has championed through her own mental health challenges and lives her experience out loud. She created a mental health platform to aid the efforts in providing the skills, resources and support that women and children desperately need. Click on the link below for more information.
